Red Dead Redemption has just won an award over 14 years after it originally came out. This classic western by Rockstar Games was released all the way back in May 2010 on Xbox 360 and PS3. However, the game only came to PC in October 2024. Fans had to wait nearly a decade and a half for a PC version but it was worth the wait. Developers Double Eleven put out a well-done effort featuring a few improvements.
Whilst Red Dead Redemption for PC did not make it onto the various best selling game charts each month like GTA V has done, that has not stopped it being worthwhile of Rockstar’s time. Firstly, it was part of the Steam Awards short list by Valve in a few categories. The Steam Awards are completely fan voted with no other factors at any stage. A few days later, fans voted to decide the final few nominees. Following that, Valve released the list of games nominated for each category.
The PC version of Red Dead Redemption became one of several games to be a finalist in the Best Soundtrack Award category. It is competed against Frostpunk 2, Fate Stay Night Remastered, Silent Hill 2 Remake and Horizon Forbidden West Complete Edition.
Red Dead Redemption won the Best Soundtrack Award. Voting closed for the Steam Awards on December 31st at 6pm GMT which was also the same time winners were announced. The game is also on a discount as part of the Steam Winter Sale.
The game received a new patch on PC this month to fix various issues and improve the game. You can find the patch notes here.
Legacy
This is the second year in a row that a Red Dead Redemption game wins a Steam Award. Last year, fans voted Red Dead Redemption 2 the winner of the “Labor of Love” award. It beat finalists Dota 2, Deep Rock Galactic, Rust and Apex Legends. Red Dead 2’s victory was controversial with many players taking to social media to say it did not deserve it.
