In classic Rockstar Games fashion, the GTA 6 release date was announced on a random Friday complete with a delay. However, what is out of character for Rockstar is how consistent their messaging is on their website and social media channels.
After 16 months of silence, Rockstar finally acknowledged GTA VI once again last week but it only brought bad news to fans. The game has slipped out of the targeted Fall 2025 window and it would now arrive on Tuesday May 26th 2026.
In the past, Rockstar have softened bad news by accompanying it with new screenshots or a trailer. There was nothing whatsoever with this aside from more information is coming “soon“. Soon to Rockstar can mean anything.
Fans quickly noticed that the company had not changed any mention of 2025 on their website and socials. Of course, some thought they might do it later on Friday. That was not the case. It is Monday now and Rockstar still have text saying GTA 6 is coming in 2025 on their website. This includes the official web page for the game.
Back when the game was revealed, we got some artwork with text saying “Coming 2025”, as seen above. With some companies, you’d imagine might not update that right away and such. However this is Rockstar Games. Fans would expect this sort of thing to be ready for when the announcement is made. The Twitter, Facebook and YouTube headers still says coming 2025. Unprepared Is Unlike Rockstar
Another thing to keep in mind is that it is a bank holiday in the UK on Monday. This means Rockstar won’t be changing anything immediately either. Rockstar’s marketing and such is done out of the UK so those teams are not working until Tuesday. Given they won’t work on a weekend and have bank holiday, it is still a little odd Rockstar did not have updates to their marketing materials prepared.
To many fans, this feels like the announcement was either a last minute decision or very few were in the know and such changes could not be prepared for. Or perhaps a mix of both.
GTA 6 Trailer 2 Incoming?
There might even be a good side to all of this. Given the lack of updates to the website and such, maybe a new look at the game is coming sooner than we think? It would make sense to change copy to “Coming May 26th 2026” alongside a new trailer or selection of screenshots and they could just be waiting for that?
Rockstar’s parent company, Take-Two Interactive, will deliver financial data to investors on May 15th next week. Getting the bad news of the delay out of the way and dropping the share price nearly 2 weeks prior allows them time to give some new marketing material just before the next earnings report.

not suprised after they just laid off a couple of hundred employees
Rockstar actually giving the exact date of May 26 2026 is kinda fishy because they never announce that a year in advance
