After over a year, Rockstar Games have broke their silence and announced the GTA 6 release date. In a Tweet posted on Friday, the company shared the long-awaited Grand Theft Auto VI would be releasing on Tuesday May 26th 2026. This is a delay from Fall 2025.
Many fans had gained some hope Rockstar would actually be sticking to Fall 2025. Especially as their parent company, Take-Two Interactive, was telling investors fairly recently that it was still on target for Fall 2025.
News in some form was expected around this time as Take-Two have to report their next year’s plans to investors on May 15th. Fans assumed a trailer would be coming but in reality it was a delay to 2026.
The company shared a statement on their website’s newswire and you can read it below:

Grand Theft Auto VI is now set to release on May 26, 2026.
We are very sorry that this is later than you expected. The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto has been truly humbling for our entire team. We want to thank you for your support and your patience as we work to finish the game.
With every game we have released, the goal has always been to try and exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception. We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve.

The statement explains the sizeable 6+ month delay. Rockstar want to polish the game to a level that fans expect. The one silver lining here is that the company does say they’ll give us more information on the game “soon.”
This news is still extremely disappointing to fans given the lack of any communication on the game for over a year. There was no new screenshots or trailer 2 that could soften the blow of a delay. Rockstar have done this before. For GTA VI, they have not.

I don’t mind and I understand. Rockstar has a gem of a game here and you just want to polish it more to make it shine brighter. It’ll be worth the wait.
