The Nintendo Switch 2 has launched globally to huge excitement. With people lining up for the midnight release to consoles out of stock on online stores, it’s quite a big deal.
For those picking up the new console and own Rockstar Games titles from the first Switch or are picking them up for the first time, they will be pleased to hear about the backwards compatibility.
Nintendo release a document confirming which Switch 1 games have issues with backwards compatibility. It has been known for some time that the new system will support backwards compatibility though a few titles have issues. Any game that does have an issue is being investigated at least.
In the document shared by Nintendo, none of the Rockstar Games titles available on Nintendo Switch are affected. This means you’re able to play all of them right away on the Nintendo Switch 2 without any issues.
The list of Rockstar Games titles on the Nintendo Switch so far includes Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, Red Dead Redemption and L.A. Noire. There won’t be much improvement other than a more stable frame rate as upgrades require developers to make new versions.
More To Come From Rockstar On Switch?

This is all great news for Rockstar fans who enjoy playing these titles on the go. Though it is unknown if Rockstar will port their games over to the Switch 2. Nintendo’s new hardware has demanding games such as Cyberpunk 2077 running at 40FPS so a GTA V port is feasible. The same could even be said for Red Dead Redemption 2 which has been rumoured to come to Switch 2 and even Switch 1.
Reliable leaker Nate the Hate shared on Wednesday that a Nintendo Switch 2 port of Red Dead Redemption 2 is indeed coming this Fall.
Rockstar insider Tez2 said that Rockstar had plans to port Red Dead Redemption 2 to the Switch as far back as 2019. The Switch controller can even be found in the files of the PC version. Red Dead Redemption 2 was also age rated in Brazil for the Nintendo Switch in the September of 2023.
There has also been some work done for GTA+ support on Nintendo Switch. This would allow GTA+ members on current gen consoles to play games like L.A. Noire, the GTA Trilogy and Red Dead 1 on Switch. It is unknown if anything will come of this.
Someone attempted to run GTA V on the original Switch and this is how it performed.

I’d like to see Bully: Scholarship Edition being ported to the Nintendo Switch systems! This is a severely underrated game, and deserves more recognition than it already does.
