Netflix does games?
Back in October, we covered a report from The Wall Street Journal who claimed GTA would be coming to Netflix. We also speculated that this could be how the mobile versions of the GTA Trilogy get released.
Netflix not only streams video content now but are offering games in the mobile app and are even looking to develop their own console games. The company has been hiring industry veterans. One particular hire that made waves was Joseph Staten, one of the beloved developers behind the Halo franchise. Joe said he would be the creative director on a new AAA game.
Interestingly, the App Store and Play Store lists the developer of these 3 titles as Netflix, not Rockstar Games or Grove Street Games.
GTA Trilogy mobile details
After over 2 years of waiting, is coming to mobile but will be exclusive to Netflix subscribers. These users can play GTA III, GTA: Vice City, and GTA: San Andreas all remastered on iOS and Android devices.
The games will be playable either directly from the Netflix mobile app itself or downloaded as a standalone game from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
Netflix subscribers can pre-register for the GTA Trilogy right now so they are ready to download it when it becomes available. Netflix say Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy — The Definitive Edition will launch on December 14th / 15th depending on your time zone.
It is unknown if the mobile version will be made available outside of a Netflix subscription in the future. It is possible this is a timed exclusive meaning in several months these mobile versions will be purchasable or included in GTA+.
In September, Rockstar Games announced the GTA Trilogy would come to GTA+ on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles. Then in October we saw the mobile versions of Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories and Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars come to GTA+ members as well.
Device compatibility
To play any of the three games on iOS, your device must be running iOS 16.0 or later and have a A12 Bionic Chip or later. The oldest devices supported are the iPhone XS and iPad Pro. In terms of game size on iOS, GTA III is 1.7 GB, GTA: Vice City is 2.8 GB and GTA: San Andreas is 2.9 GB.
