Rockstar Games have announced on Thursday that Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories and Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars are now part of the GTA+ subscription service.
The long rumoured perk has finally arrived as part of the ever-growing $5 a month package. Back in June we reported GTA San Andreas on mobile got an update which contained GTA+ files. A survey was also sent out to GTA Online in November 2022 asking if they’d like free access to classic Rockstar titles.
In a Tweet on Thursday, the studio revealed a new inclusion to a recent perk for GTA Online’s monthly membership. Rockstar did say in September GTA+ will feature “a rotating assortment of classic Rockstar Games titles”. The first 3 games to be in rotation are the Definitive Edition versions of GTA III, GTA Vice City and GTA San Andreas. On top of those three, Liberty City Stories and Chinatown Wars are now included.
Mobile gaming for GTA+ members
This addition comes just a month after Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition joined the service. Those 3 games are playable on the PS5 or Xbox Series X|S respective of what console you subscribe to GTA+ on.
However, Liberty City Stories and Chinatown Wars are not playable on these consoles. They will be playable on iOS and Android devices. You’ll log into the Rockstar Games Social Club account that is subscribed to GTA+.
Rockstar Games say anyone without a GTA+ membership can play Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories and Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars on their iOS or Android devices right now for 30 minutes. This is a one-time trial whereas anyone with an active GTA+ membership can enjoy unlimited access.
Chinatown Wars currently costs £4.99 and Liberty City Stories is offered for £6.99 but that fee is waived for GTA+ members.
How to get the classic games with GTA+ or the trial
Upon opening either classic game, you’ll receive this this screen. If you have GTA+ tap “Unlock with GTA+”. If you do not have GTA+, you can purchase the games for their full price or use the 30 minute trial.
How long will these classic games remain in GTA+
At this time Rockstar Games have not said when any of the 5 games will leave GTA+. We’ll keep you up to date as soon as anything has been announced by Rockstar.
New GTA+ FAQ question added
Rockstar have updated their GTA+ FAQ section with a new question and answer:
“What happens to my GTA+ Membership Benefits if I cancel my GTA+ Membership?”
If you cancel your subscription to GTA+, you will retain any property, vehicles, and other cosmetic items, along with any bonuses or deals that you have claimed in GTA Online while your GTA+ Membership was active. However, you will no longer receive the monthly GTA$ bonus, be able to purchase GTA+ Shark Cards, have access to ongoing Membership benefits (such as early access or discounts to certain vehicles or property), be able to access any games included with GTA+, or be eligible for new Membership benefits that become active after your Membership ends. You will also forfeit any benefits that you have not claimed by the time your Membership ends.
Returning GTA+ Members will gain access to the benefits available for the active Member-only Event at the time they renew their GTA+ Membership, but will not be able to claim any benefits or rewards from previous Member-only Events which took place while their GTA+ Membership was inactive.
Current GTA+ month
The current GTA+ month ends on November 8th but given Liberty City Stories and Chinatown Wars just got added, we don’t expect them to leave in the next month. The GTA Trilogy has been in for a month now. If you want to play these 5 classic GTA games and want to know what else GTA+ offers, check out our article here.
