Despite being in a main role for a Hollywood blockbuster based on a popular video game IP, actor Jason Momoa has revealed he has never heard of Red Dead Redemption 2. This is a stark contrast to his co-star Jack Black who leads the film.
The cast of A Minecraft Movie have begun doing interviews ahead of the film’s release and of course video game questions have been raised to them. These questions are great for Jack Black who plays Steve as it is well known how much he loves video games including Red Dead Redemption 2. Let’s take a quick recap.
In 2023, Black released a song part of his band Tenacious-D called Video Games. The lyrics and accompanying video feature Red Dead Redemption 2 shout outs. He also questioned in 2024 why a Red Dead Redemption film has not been made yet.

In a new interview with Comicbook, when asked what’s the most hours they’ve put into a game, Black said he has over 400 hours in Red Dead Redemption 2. It was mostly during the pandemic in which he discovered his love for the Rockstar Games title. He went onto say that “It was not a game. It was like a way of life” and adds “I don’t regret any of it. It was so fun”.

Meanwhile Jason Momoa revealed he had “never even heard of it”. Jack Black was quick to respond saying “Dude, you’ve never even heard of Rockstar Games? These guys are the artists.” Momoa share that he has an “addictive personality” hence why he does not play games though he has played a fair bit of Capcom’s Street Fighter. It’s always nice to see Jack Black share his appreciation for Red Dead 2 and Rockstar. After over a decade of development, A Minecraft Movie will release in cinemas on April 2025.
