Red Dead Redemption 2 has a starring role in Tenacious-D’s new song “Video Games” and its accompanying music video. Released on May 11th, the iconic comedy rock duo sing about their love for video games, hence the name.
The music video was created by the Oneyplays content creation team headed up by Adam Paloian and Chris “Oney” O’Neill. According to one half of Tenacious-D, Jack Black, they all had “had a lot of fun creating this one”.
Red Dead 2 was more than just a cameo
The animated music video that compliments the song shows Black’s avatar dressing up as various gaming characters in plenty of related scenes. These include Mario, Team Fortress 2, Sonic, Tomb Raider, God of War as well as Red Dead Redemption 2. Since its release in 2018, the game has gone on to be a hit, selling well over 50 million copies sold.
Unlike the the majority, Black highlights Rockstar’s epic western in the lyrics. He sings “Red Dead Redemption 2 that is not a game. It is an incredible journey through old American history. Fighting for your life and fighting for your family. Trying to live your days with honor and integrity. That’s not a game, that’s an adult thing.” Many fans of Red Dead Redemption 2 will agree the game is not just a game but one incredible journey from start to finish.
During this part of the song we see Jack Black on horseback riding through a stylised version of Red Dead Redemption 2’s world including Valentine. It’s quite graphic but certainly worth a viewing. You can watch the full music video right here.
