The GTA San Andreas remaster is going to be free to play for select PlayStation Plus tiers next month. Via their blog, PlayStation announced the upcoming slate of games for PlayStation Plus on Tuesday. One of the main titles is the GTA San Andreas remaster which was part of the controversial Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition.
PlayStation Plus players head to the west coast
Any one who subscribes to the PlayStation Plus Premium or Extra tiers will be able to download the full remastered San Andreas game when it is added to the service. The date PlayStation give on their blog post is Friday June 7th. The has now gone live in PlayStation Plus.
You’ll have full access until your membership ends or when it is removed from the service. Typically, Rockstar Games titles remain part of PlayStation Plus for 6 months. So we’d expect GTA San Andreas The Definitive Edition to leave PlayStation Plus’ Game Catalog in November this year.
This is not the first time one of the trilogy games have been part of PlayStation Plus. Vice City entered the service on October 2022. It left PS+ in February 2023 meaning it had a 6 month stint there. Meanwhile a year before, just after launch, GTA III was part of PlayStation Now for half a year.
Released in late 2021 to much criticism, the GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition received some updates to fix many of the worst issues. However, the games still are not up to the level of care and quality GTA fans believe they deserve.
In fact, the mobile ports of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition features improvements over the console and PC versions. Many fans still would like to see those features and changes come over to console and PC in a future update. It is unknown if this will ever happen.
