Rockstar Games have continued to hire several people for the modded version of GTA Online called FiveM. This is an interesting development based on the job roles and descriptions and new features are teased.
Many fans have been wondering what Rockstar Games’ plan is for FiveM and RedM since they purchased the team behind these platforms last year. We reported last year on a few job listings and what they revealed in their descriptions. It was really a sight to behold: Rockstar Games hiring for a modded version of their games.
FiveM team grows to build new features
However, it seems the recruitment has ramped up in the last few weeks. More roles have been opened by Rockstar with several being filled. Clearly they have plans to bring additional talent onboard to develop FiveM.
At the time of writing there is a Senior Software Engineer job open on the FiveM team. One of the responsibilities notes: “Contribute to the design and architecture of new features and improvements for the modding platform”. This was spotted by community member TakeDev Company. A few weeks ago, Rockstar were hiring for a UX Designer on the FiveM team but that role has now closed.
According to the Senior Director of Creator Platform at Rockstar Games, they are looking for “anyone passionate about the GTA RP/modding scene and the future of UGC and creator economies, as we’re hiring for a number of roles across engineering, product, marketing, developer relations, and biz dev/partnerships.”
FiveM’s Product Lead recently joined the team and said “I’m thrilled to be joining the team to help push these platforms forward further. Even more so as I’ve been a gamer across both FiveM and RedM for a number of years now!”
What does the future hold?
Rockstar insider Tez2 recently took to the GTA forums to discuss how he thinks Rockstar will use the FiveM platform. Users were wondering if GTA VI will have some sort of FiveM system for role play and other user created content.
Tez responded saying he thinks Rockstar “might go the Bethesda route”. This would mean console mod support and monetisation of mods. Bethesda’s Creator Club has been a successful standout feature of Fallout 4, Skyrim and soon Starfield. Mod creators have been able to sell mods on console, not just PC. Tez reiterates this is simply him theorising and “They may not pick the Bethesda route and instead do their own.”
It will be very interesting to see how Rockstar develops FiveM and Redm. A lot of members of the community are sceptical. If you’d like to apply for one of the three FiveM positions at Rockstar, you can check them out here.
