Last night the union that represents many of video games voice and performance actors announced members will strike as of today. SAG-AFTRA (Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) announced the news via their website.
SAG-AFTRA revealed they are negotiating with Rockstar Games’ parent company among other big players in the game such as Activision, Disney, EA, Insomniac Games, WB Games and more.

This all caused hysteria online as fans worried GTA 6 could be hit hard and lead to a sizeable delay. Things were not helped by some miscommunication on what might have been on the unions end. Thankfully it has now been cleared up by someone in the game publishers’ corner.
Clarity given following major worry
According to Audrey Cooling, a representative for the game companies, GTA VI won’t be part of the strike. Kotaku received this “I can confirm GTA VI is exempt” statement from her. Plus, further clarification that any game already in development before September 2023 is also exempt.
This means any project that is not struck can be worked on by union actors. If voice over and performance capture still needs to be done by actors, they can work without issue for Rockstar Games on GTA VI.

Last year, investors asked Take Two’s CEO Strauss Zelnick if GTA VI would be impacted by a looming SAG-AFTRA strike Mr Zelnick said back then that GTA 6 is “completely protected” from any SAG-AFTRA strike for voice/performance actors. Take-Two’s share price took a small drop following yesterday’s news but now GTA VI is exempt, investors can have a sigh of relief.
