No, A GTA Movie isn’t happening

Over the last few days, there has been a lot of talk on the internet about a Grand Theft Auto movie being in development and releasing before Grand Theft Auto VI. This almost certainly isn’t happening.

Two Weeks ago WeGotThisCovered randomly reported that Rockstar Games are developing a Grand Theft Auto Movie, which apparently features live-action versions of Michael, Trevor, and Franklin. (This could mean using Ned Luke, Shawn Fonteno, and Steven Ogg). This then got picked up by the major news site such as Dexerto.

Although Rockstar Games have been known for making films in the past and even had a studio called Rockstar Films which produced The Football Factory, Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar Games themselves have always stated they have no interest in making movies based on Videogames.

Strauss Zelnick, the CEO of Take-Two Interactive, said less than a year ago that they have no plans for a GTA Movie and have never attempted to make a Grand Theft Auto movie. He also said that Grand Theft Auto is the most valuable intellectual property ever created by mankind and that they have complete control of the Series and don’t want to risk another company of hopefully doing a good job making a movie out of it.

Back in 2011, Rockstar Games Vice President Dan Houser (Now Ex-Vice President) told The Hollywood Reporter that Rockstar Games have no plans on making movies for any videogames that they create and as quoted he said ‘Virtually all movies made from games are awful, while many games made from movies are also pretty horrible. This will change, but with an ever more discerning audience, the goals of taking something from film-to-games or game-to-film have to be more than financial,” said Houser. “If you feel the property has something about it that is universal or could work in another medium, and it is not simply about making easy money, then that is something worthwhile.”

We also should point out that WGTC is not the most reliable source to trust. More ‘Rumors; that they start spreading turn out to be false than correct. We contacted the most reliable source in the GTA community, Yan2295 to see if he has heard anything from his inside sources, he responded with, ‘Why so formal? I know who you are lol. But no I haven’t heard anything about a GTA movie.’

Since this is starting to blow up…
The "source" is this website. Almost all of their articles are baseless rumors. https://t.co/EJbfKrKCkV
As @Cade_Onder said, they rarely get anything right, and Strauss Zelnick himself said they have no plans for a GTA movie. Big doubts. https://t.co/TtPeOPaiUk

It would be an epic movie though and it would probably make a great profit. I know Id climb mountains to see a GTA5 movie. Nonetheless, the game in itself is like a interactive movie that you can control and is by far the best game in existence as all GTA games have been! Just wish they would have included the extra mini games like air hockey and pool. But it doesn’t change the outcome of how great it is.
