Rockstar Games have finally confirmed the release day for the long awaited next-gen update for GTA V and GTA Online on PC. They’ve also supplied a few screenshots of this version with raytracing and it looks stunning.
Announced way back in 2020, this new version of GTA V and GTA Online has suffered various delays. After a few years of waiting, PC players are getting what PS5 and Xbox Series X|S players have had for nearly 3 years: new content, new graphics and new features.
We learned from Rockstar back in November last year that they would eventually put out this version in 2025. They then seemingly let it slip in a GTA Online feedback survey and GTA+ month that it would release around March. Now in their latest Newswire post, the company revealed that they will be giving PC the next-gen treatment on Tuesday March 4th. That’s less than 2 weeks away.
The Good News Keeps Coming

The cherry on top is this version will be free to everyone who owns a copy of GTA V on PC already. This is unexpected as the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S version cost money. You’ll also be able to transfer your Story Mode and GTA Online progress much like previous console and the first PC launch migrations.
Feature Set

If you don’t know what the next-gen version contains or needed a refresher as it has been 3 years since the console launch, check out everything coming to PC in this next gen update via Rockstar:

What About The Old Version?

Rockstar Games do confirm they will continue to support the older version of GTA V and GTA Online on PC. This means if your PC does is not up to the task of this enhanced version, you’ll still be able to enjoy updates with the original PC release. Same can be said about FiveM. They say it “will continue uninterrupted while we work to extend support for it on the upgraded version.”
The FiveM team shared a statement on their own forums. They explain server owners should maintain servers on the current version of GTA V. A release date for their support will be announced in due course alongside development progress. Server upgrades won’t be mandatory either.
Furthermore, the original version of GTA Online on PC will indeed be a separate instance so you’ll not be able to play with players who remain on the older version, much like on console. PC Players who want to play with each other will need to ensure they’re playing the same version of the game. Both versions will be available to everyone who upgrades — and first-time purchasers will get access to both versions as well say Rockstar. Same goes for FiveM, servers running the old version can’t be played with the new version.
New Update Content

Lastly, the company say the next GTA Online update is coming next month; likely March 4th. They are also teasing the new update in GTA Online this week. When you next log into the game, you’ll get a text message from Ron saying “Did you hear the McKenzie Field Hangar’s coming up for sale? That’s Trevor’s place! It’s always been Trevor’s place! I never did trust that Oscar asshole. No loyalty! If you hear who ends up buying it let me know…”
The McKenzie Field Hangar will be up for purchase and the Oscar Guzman files will be new missions. Stay tuned for more news on this.
