Erling Haaland was spotted playing GTA V just before playing in the UEFA Champions League final during a new documentary. Over the last few years, his goal scoring skill has made him world famous and successful on the pitch.
In May 2023, his Man City team got to their second Champions League final. After losing the their first a couple of years ago, they looked to finally clinch the trophy they had been after. Their season was a record-breaking one and Netflix followed them on their journey.
GTA V as prep ahead of an important sporting final
Titled Together: Treble Winners, the show was released on the video streaming platform this week and gamers spotted something fun during the final episode when the team are preparing for the UCL final. You’d think some players at this high of a level would be playing games or doing anything that could be considered a distraction. However, talisman Haaland played GTA V the night before the big game.
First spotted by Twitter (currently known as X) user @pruzinhaaland, we can see the striker sat in the hotel, controller in hand, with GTA V on the TV. Below the display are a few PS5 game cases including GTA V’s and a second Dualsense pad.
What is he doing?
Something interesting to takeaway from the clip is that Haaland is playing the Prologue to the GTA V story mode. He simply booted up a brand new save and is trying to escape North Yankton with the stolen cash.
The first clip we see of him playing GTA is when Michael and Trevor look to steal the money. His team members ask him to play FIFA but he exclaims:
I’m in the middle of a heist! I need the cash, so… The police is after me!
Erling Haaland
GTA fans will be wondering why he just loaded up a new game like he has never played GTA V before. It is possible he forgot his PlayStation login details, wasn’t able to sign in or something.
Erling has been outspoken in the past for his love of games with a couple in particular. Playing with friends on FIFA would be a given but he also enjoys Minecraft with pals too. The player can be spotted in the same episode playing FIFA on the PS5 with a team member after they ask him again to stop playing GTA V and switch to FIFA.
Another professional footballer recently talked about GTA. Goalkeeper Hugo Lloris who recently joined LAFC said GTA helped him know the city of angles before he arrived. You can learn more about that story here.
What’s next, a parody of Inter Miami in GTA VI? It would not be out of the question given the high profile signing of Lionel Messi, arguably the greatest player of all time.
