The GTA V mod that brought over GTA IV’s Liberty City to the game has been shut down by Rockstar Games. This is yet another community created project to add to the long list of mods that have been forced to end development and stop distribution by Rockstar Games/Take-Two Interactive.
After 6 years of development, the Rockstar Games Shut Down GTA V Liberty City Preservation Project Mod was released in January to much fanfare due to the sheer volume of content and quality. The mod opened up the opportunity for fans to visit the iconic New York City-inspired location with a fresh coat of paint inside of GTA V and FiveM. It has been seen as a GTA IV remaster. The mod was also completely free to download and play.
We covered this mod extensively including even interviewing the modders behind the project. It allowed the community to learn so much about the development of such an ambitious creation. The mod could also run on the Steam Deck too. However, all of the celebrations have been quickly silenced.
Reading Between The Lines

In a message shared on their Discord server, modding team World Travel announced the mod was ceasing to exist following communication from Rockstar Games. The full message reads:
Hello everyone.
Due to the unexpected attention that our project received and after speaking with Rockstar Games, we have decided to take down the Liberty City Preservation project. We appreciate all the support that the project has received, and we look forward to continuing to pursue our passion for modding the Grand Theft Auto series. – nkjellman, World Travel modding team
Based on the wording, it is clear Rockstar Games requested the team to end development of Liberty City Preservation and the ability to download it. This has caused many fans to be outraged on social media. Once again, a community project has been wiped due to the request of the game’s publisher.
That said, the team at World Travel still want to continue to mod GTA games in some form even if it is not bringing Liberty City to GTA V.
GTA V was just confirmed to be the 5th best selling game in all of 2024 throughout Europe. The game might be 11 years old but won’t stop gaining new players. Plus, the game was the most watched title on live streams last year as well.

Rockstar is so ridiculous. Half of the attention the game gets 11 years later is due to the amazing modding community. And they go out of their way to destroy it.
A game designed around the idea of theft and chaos, mad that their game was taken
I’m still very mad at RockStar games. I will not forget!
What about bring back horting racing that everyone loves
