GTA V can now utilise DLSS 3 and FSR thanks to a new update for a renowned mod. The inclusion of Nvidia’s incredible upscaling technology will be able to double your framerates in GTA V’s story mode and even in FiveM GTA RP servers without much of hit to the visuals.
This week, a new update launched for NaturalVision Evolved. NVE is a popular mod that is famous for making Grand Theft Auto V’s graphics better. The game was released in 2013 for the Xbox 360 and PS3 so the underlying technology is still two generations old despite a current gen release. Razed, the modder behind NVE, has been updating it for years now making the game look even more stunning.
We’ve previously reported on major updates to this fan favourite mod before. For example, last year saw some visual improvements that are becoming the standard in modern day titles. This includes parallax interiors and volumetric clouds. There’s a fair chance of seeing these in GTA VI from Rockstar Games in 2025.
DLSS is here for GTA V
As part of NVE’s December 2023 update, Razed revealed DLSS, DLAA and FSR are now usable. Another modder named PureDark, who is known for their DLSS mods worked on this DLSS mod too. Due to how NaturalVision Evolved works, these are limited to GTA V’s story mode and FiveM through the Discord store. It is not possible to use these upscaling technologies in GTA Online.
According to a video Razed put out, the game went from 87 FPS to 152 FPS using DLSS over MSAA in one scene. Another shot saw the FPS rise from 78 to 147. GTA V was running at 4K resolution at max settings on a RTX 4090 to achieve these results.
If you have a 40 series RTX GPU, expect to see some significant improvements to the frame rate. Razed also notes that this “fixes aliasing and makes image stable”. For users who don’t own an Nvidia card, you can not choose AMD’s FSR upscaling tech to get more performance out of your game.
This mod implementing DLSS and FSR is important because the mod can be performance intensive. Due to the incredible graphical features, it does make running GTA V more difficult. However, this DLSS and FSR inclusion will help claw back some of the FPS lost from using this mod beforehand.
We’d love official DLSS and FSR implementations from Rockstar in GTA V. Red Dead Redemption 2 received the upscaling support in its PC version down the road. Even Red Dead Redemption’s re-release on PS5 had FSR 2 support. Unfortunately, current gen features such as ray tracing and HSW have not even made it to GTA V on PC yet.
How to get DLSS for GTA V
To use DLSS or FSR in GTA V, you can get it on Discord here. It is a purchase that costs money, just like the NaturalVision Evolved mod. You’ll also need to have a supported GPU.
Alongside DLSS and FSR in this update, the NVE team reworked the Christmas Content Pack, added muzzle light flash for certain weapons, and more. Razed posted a great video showcasing all of the update’s features.
