Rockstar Games may be looking to offer a new creative tool in GTA Online. For over a decade, fans have been able to creator their own deathmatches, races etc in the game. It also has seen updates that added more modes such as Survival and Stunt Races. Even in the most recent DLC update Rockstar gave fans the ability to make Drift and Drag races plus new props.
However, you can’t create actual missions such as the ones Rockstar themselves release as part of DLCs. That might change in the future following a file found in the Bottom Dollar Bounties update.
Public Mission Creator revealed early?
As spotted by Rockstar insider Tez2, a interesting, new but empty script was included in the latest GTA Online DLC patch. The file name is public_mission_creator.ysc. This could indicate Rockstar Games are working on a public version of the mission creator for GTA Online.
If this was to happen, it would unlock a whole new level of user-generated content and prolong the life of GTA Online. The new possibilities will be unlocked. We’re closing in on 11 years since its launch and long time players are certainly feeling the burnout from Rockstar’s content.
The Bottom Dollar Bounties update did not include a whole lot of content making some fans disappointed but the missions included were a more positive addition. Community members praised the mission design due to its uniqueness compared to past content drops.
A game changer for GTA Online and its future
Whilst Rockstar are great at what they do, there’s no doubt after 11 years and full focus on GTA VI the recent GTA Online content is not at its best. That said, fans always deliver in gaming. If community members had the ability to create their own missions and share them with everyone, it would keep things fresh as we have well over a year to go for GTA 6. New tools will bring new ideas.
As GTA Online closes in on its final year, we don’t expect much more content given the resources required to get GTA 6 and the next GTA Online out of the door. GTA Online typically now gets two big content updates per year; one in summer and winter.
The rough 6 month gap between updates can become boring but this would be one way to prolong GTAO through 2025 until GTA 6. Giving fans the option to make their own missions and go crazy with it might be a huge thing for GTA Online.
Community Series Jobs Expanded?
Rockstar Games already promote community made jobs with the Community Series feature. Every so often the company will select 7 jobs made by fans to be features within the game. The latest drop actually came out on Thursday and we have them all here.
This feature gives recognition by Rockstar to those that put in a lot of time and effort to create fun experiences within GTA Online. Plus, Rockstar typically pairs it with triple money and RP to give them a player count boost.
We could see something like this occurring for actual missions too if Rockstar decide to offer up creator tools for mission. It would allow them to publicly say more missions are coming to GTA Online and they did not even make them.
FiveM building blocks?
We’ve seen insane work done with FiveM and on servers with custom jobs and such. Perhaps more freedom to creation will come now Rockstar purchased the team behind FiveM?
We reported back in February how Rockstar Games had hired many people for the FiveM team and to work on the “Creator Platform”. It remains to be seen what this Creator Platform will be and if it will come to GTA Online or GTA 6 Online first.
It is also worth noting that Rockstar’s parent company, Take-Two Interactive, did say “We would like to monetize that if we can” in regards to GTA RP and modding. Games such as Minecraft, Fortnite and Roblox feature huge creator economies. GTA Online has it too but not officially in-game. Rockstar could be looking to bring something like that into the game itself.
