Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas – The Definitive Edition will be removed from Xbox Game Pass this month following 6 months in the subscription service. All Game Pass members have been able to play GTA: SA on their Xbox One and Series consoles plus via cloud streaming since the controversial Definitive Edition of the trilogy released last November.
Remasters leaving Xbox and PlayStation subscriptions
This news was confirmed by Microsoft on their Xbox Wire blog this week. The post states Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas – The Definitive Edition (Cloud and Console) will leave Xbox Game Pass on May 10th. This follows the remastered version of GTA: Vice City leaving PlayStation Now earlier this week. Back at release, PS Now members could play GTA III from the Definitive Edition but that left for Vice City a few months ago.
It is worth noting that you can’t buy each game from the trilogy separately on Xbox or PlayStation. This means if you wish to keep playing GTA: SA on your Xbox console, you will have to buy the GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition in full.
At the time of the announcement that San Andreas would join Game Pass, it was big news given the highly anticipated nature of these remasters.
Rockstar’s Game Pass History
Rockstar Games and Take Two have had GTA V (twice), Red Dead Redemption 2 and Red Dead Online in Game Pass before for 6 months in length. This means it should not come as a surprise that San Andreas will leave Xbox Game Pass this month. Whilst it is a shame that GTA San Andreas to be removed from Xbox Game Pass this month, perhaps it could return at some point? Given the fact that Rockstar Games has brought back GTA V and explored Game Pass with Red Dead Redemption 2, there is always a chance. Perhaps even the whole trilogy at some point? If Xbox announce anything we will keep you updated.
