GTA Online is getting a big update this summer and now we have a good idea when it is releasing thanks to Rockstar Games’ behaviour patterns. There’s a high chance it is coming in just a few short weeks.
We recently published an article that covered everything we know so far coming in the upcoming DLC. In that article, we shared Rockstar Games insider Tez2‘s release date guide using the GTA+ subscription service.
How it has been worked out
GTA+ months last around 4 weeks and during the halfway stage, Rockstar send an in-game reminder for people to sign up to the membership. In the past, Rockstar have extended GTA+ months past 4 weeks when a GTA Online update is coming out.
An example of this happened ahead of last year’s summer update: a reminder was not given on May 25th or June 1st. The reminder came through a week later on June 8th and this was also a week after the update was properly announced by Rockstar.
At the time of writing, today is May 23rd. We are now over halfway through the GTA+ month. It started on May 2nd and Rockstar claimed at the time it would end on June 5th. As Tez pointed out on Twitter there was no GTA+ reminder, he also said this should mean Rockstar are extending GTA+.
Tez says “We’re looking at an early June DLC release, possibly on Tuesday, June 11th.” This is based on the fact GTA+ months are only extended by a week or so and updates typically release on a Tuesday. If it does release on June 11th, PlayStation players should be able to start downloading it on June 10th. Xbox are currently testing this feature for games but GTA V does not work with it just yet.
Another thing to consider is that the price of GTA+ will rise on June 11th. Whilst Rockstar Games have not communicated anything about the price hike themselves, current GTA+ members did receive an email to say the price of the subscription will go up on June 11th. Anyone who is not a current member will see the price increase already on the Xbox Store and PlayStation Store.
MAY 30TH UPDATE:
The GTA+ reminder has now been added to GTA Online. Tez says “No sign of an early June DLC release anymore.” The late reminder but no extension is a little unusual.
When Rockstar Games teased a big summer update, they also shared how GTA+ members would be getting a new car from the patch for free. This turned out to be the brand new Överflöd Pipistrello. Given the price rise and extension for GTA+, June 11th seems like a safe bet. Below is our first look at the Överflöd Pipistrello,
With less than three weeks until what could be the big GTA Online update release date, a formal announcement from Rockstar Games could arrive at any time. We should expect a Newswire article sharing some details and screenshots about the update; perhaps even a short trailer to go with it.
In other news from Tez2, he said on the GTA forums “expect” Drift and Drag Races to be added to the creator mode in the summer update. If this is the case, it will be interesting to see what the community come up with!
If you’re curious about what’s included in GTA+ this month, you can them all check out here. It now includes access to L.A. Noire, Red Dead Redemption, and more cash in GTA Online.
