GTA 6 developers who formally requested Rockstar Games to officially recognise them ahead of the game’s launch have shared some good news. It has reached several milestones.
In a post to their social media pages, the Rockstar Game Workers Union (RGWU) announced that they have had their first meeting with Rockstar Games management. This comes after the group have now officially become the largest game studio union in Europe. Members of the union include the few dozen who were fired last year plus potentially hundreds of current Rockstar Games staff.
The union says “we were able to make the case that workers’ voices need to be heard and that we can collaborate to achieve this.” One of the most important things to come out of the meeting is that the RGWU have been able to get Rockstar to create a robust roadmap for a fast negotiation process. This is a significant milestone. On top of that, the RGWU say they are looking to agree on a “bargaining unit” which is the list of workers that the union can represent.

“If negotiations over a voluntary recognition agreement hit a wall, we will pursue statutory recognition, which legally obliges an employer to recognise a union once it represents a significant proportion the workforce.”
Here’s what the union are wanting from Rockstar
- No Crunch
- Pay Transparency
- Flexible Working
- No Al
- A Commitment to No Layoffs
