Rockstar Games have suffered a major blow in their legal fight against the GTA 6 developers they fired last year. The company launched a bid to keep blacklisting claims out of the legal dispute but the panel overseeing the case has blocked Rockstar’s request to withhold it. Former Rockstar staffers have also spoke out following this decision.
On Wednesday, the Independent Workers’ Union of Great Britain (IWGB) (via Eurogamer) revealed that Rockstar Games have suffered a big legal setback. The employment tribunal decided against Rockstar for its request of blacklisting claims made against the company be removed from the ongoing trial. The IWGB tell the outlet that Rockstar first made this blacklisting request during the preliminary hearing that we reported on a few months ago.
With the ruling made against Rockstar today, the trial is shaping up ahead of taking place on September 10th 2026. It will last until October 15th so over a month. This is the first time the dates have been publicly revealed. This is just before GTA VI comes out.
All of the allegations put against Rockstar are now fully set to be put into the trial. Politicians previously accused Rockstar of blocking the ongoing legal proceedings. Learn more about it here.

IWGB Game Workers Branch chair Spring McParlin-Jones told Eurogamer that today’s decision is a “major blow to Rockstar”. Meanwhile a statement from one of the affected employees can be found below:
“This ruling is a huge moment for us. Rockstar thought they could control the narrative. They’re wrong, and we look forward to proving it. Our case will now be heard in full and put to the test as it should be. The world will get to see for itself the evidence as to what happened last October. We loved our work at Rockstar. Losing our passion, our colleagues and our incomes in the blink of an eye was devastating, and the company management has treated us with disdain ever since, refusing to grant us appeals or respond to basic evidence requests.
After months of fighting to have our voices heard, this is a moment to celebrate. The judgment shows that even against a company with Rockstar’s resources, workers can stand together and demand accountability. This fight has always been about more than just our own situation – it is about making sure workers across the games industry and beyond have the right to stand together, speak out, and organise for a fairer sector.”

Earlier this month, the developers who were fired plus colleagues still working at Rockstar announced the formal organisation of their union: The Rockstar Game Workers Union. Learn more about the new union here.
