It’s Time to Talk About Red Dead Redemption 2’s Ending [Spoilers]

It has been exactly 3 weeks since Red Dead Redemption 2 hit shelves, and almost 4 weeks since we began playing it (thanks Rockstar). Of course, we all have jobs and many have not completed the game yet – so for those that have, let’s talk about it.

I personally think it’s time to talk about the games ending. If you haven’t finished the game, don’t read on please. It’s your funeral.

Speaking of funerals…

Arthur Morgan did not deserve to die. I personally believe that his death was completely out-of-the-blue in the context of.. tuberculosis? Really? I understand that TB was a huge thing back then but giving Arthur it seems pretty pointless as a game mechanic. It’s just a burden with the limitations being sick gives you.

In my playthrough, my Arthur didn’t even die of tuberculosis – he was shot in the head by Micah. That means that in my playthrough Arthur’s TB was one of the most useless damn things I’ve ever witnessed in a game. It was also a really predictable ending, the epilogue especially.

A four hour epilogue was kinda ridiculous, and way too much time just to bridge the gap between the gang’s split and John’s arrest. It may sound like I’m ripping on the ending a bit too much, and that’s unfair. I completely adored the ending of the game. The montage of building Beecher’s Hope was a completely wholesome and surprisingly fun task, and I wanna replay the whole game all over again just to have that emotional part of John doing that for Abigail and his family.

The ending was very emotional, and seeing this gang fall apart was super sad. At the beginning of the game, I was consistently asking myself “what was so bad about this gang?” as John constantly talks negatively about them in Red Dead Redemption 1. Then, by the time it got to the end of the game – I was like, “yep. Rockstar completely changed my opinion.” If that isn’t fantastic storytelling, I don’t know what is.

I could go on for days, but I want to hear what you thought of the ending, and what you think might be next for Red Dead. Let us know in the comments below!

Kyle’s thoughts on the Red Dead Redemption 2 ending

Agreeing with Ben that Arthur Morgan did not deserve to die. He is personally my favourite main protagonist in a video game. Although with him not being in the original Red Dead Redemption it was pretty obvious he had to die.

When Arthur was diagnosed with tuberculosis, this made it even more obvious. I personally think that it was far from a useless part of the story. From my view it made Arthur look at what life is actually about and to fix his mistakes before he dies.

As for the Epilogue, they were interesting for sure. Playing as John Marston is something i dislike as i do that for most of the original Red Dead Redemption. Playing as Sadie would’ve been better. The first part of the Epilogue was kinda boring. It does seem to drag for a bit. I wasn’t tempted to stop playing because of it though. Milking cows and delivering groceries isn’t something i was planning on doing but it was different. The game isn’t all about Bank robberies and gunfights.

The second part of the Epilogue was where it got fun, building your house at Beechers hope, not something i ever expected to do but was that a fun part of the game, especially with the music that plays whilst you’re building. Finally tracking down Micah and killing him was also very satisfying. Especially with the whole twist of Dutch helping you to kill him.

The ending was for sure one of the best endings i’ve ever experienced in a video game. Watching the gang get torn apart by Dutch and Micah. Then watching Sadie getting stabbed. Thank you Rockstar for at least keeping her alive.

Make sure to let us know what you think in the comments below, or tweet us what you think. We want to know everyones view on the ending.
