A recently released AI mod for GTA V which went viral has been shutdown by Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar Games’ parent company.
Earlier this month modder Bloc showcased Sentient Streets, a new story creation mod for GTA 5. It had several key features which definitely would have raised eyebrows at Take-Two sooner or later.
Bloc worked with Inworld AI, a character engine for AI NPCs and ElevenLabs, an AI voice generator. This allows real-time text-to-speech for AI and more in GTA V. The mod itself featured around 30 NPCs with AI generated voices for conversations not recorded by a human.
Bloc said “A deadly cult known as The NihilAIsts aims to seize control of Los Santos, convinced that they live within a game world and worship an unseen AI as their god. As chaos unfolds with the cult’s unpunished crimes and corrupted officials, you and your partner emerge as the last hope to thwart their diabolical plan. Over the course of three intense days, interact with eccentric cult members, cunning police officers, and unsuspecting civilians as you race against time to unravel the truth.” via Inworld AI’s blogpost.
Take-Two Takedown
Bloc released a YouTube video showing off his work and it quickly garnered the attention of the media and fans. The mod was published to Bloc’s NexusMods and GTA5-mods pages as well for users to check out for themselves.
Unfortunately and as expected, Take-Two submitted a copyright claim on Bloc’s YouTube video and the Nexus Mods page. Bloc announced this on his YouTube Community Tab along with a lengthy statement.
“Yesterday, Take-Two Interactive hit my channel with copyright strike about my video on GTA V mod and YouTube removed the video immediately without giving any chance to explain myself.” Bloc wrote. The video had surpassed 100,000 views before Take-Two took action.
Due to the DMCA takedown made by Take-Two on Nexus Mods, Block decided to pull it from GTA5-mods before TTI come calling.
Inworld AI did share a video of the mod in action on their Twitter page and that has not been removed yet. If you wish to see the mod in action, check it out below before it is removed.
The source code was also released for the mod meaning anyone could make use of it how they want. This would allow it to be used in GTA RP servers and such.
