Actor Stephen Root has confirmed he was cast in GTA 6 after a long period of fans assuming that he will be one of the characters we’ll be spending plenty of time with. When trailer 2 dropped, GTA VI fans were quick to connect Brian Heder’s voice with the Floridian. Now that speculation can be put to rest.
In a new interview at the BAFTA TV Tea Party with the Associated Press, Stephen Root was asked about the “speculation” around his potential involvement in Grand Theft Auto VI. The actor did admit he’s in the game and that his character was revealed during the game’s marketing some time ago. Whilst he does not confirm he is playing Brian, it’s clear that he is.
“Yeah, you’re gonna see me in there. It’s coming out November 19th. I think from the first roll out of GTA that they were doing maybe almost a year ago, they had my character in there and there were too many people who knew me from King of the Hill and my voice. So, think that that secret kind of got divulged then.”

It’s fun to see an actor openly admit they’re in the next Grand Theft Auto game. For years, the game’s actors have had to not mention GTA. In contrast, Root is out here publicly confirming he’s in the game. The interviewer also asked what it was like to work on GTA VI. Root responded by saying “Absolutely [it’s a whole different ball game] I’m so happy to be involved with it. It’s an amazing thing to look at.”
Root is best known for his performances in Barry, Office Space, King of the Hill, Get Out among others. Most recently he has been nominated for an Emmy for his role as Wyck Crawford in the Apple TV series “Widow’s Bay.”
