GTA V should be arriving into Xbox’s PC Game Pass subscription soon. The second best selling game of all time has been part of Xbox Game Pass a few times over the years. Its most recent stint was from July 2023 to January 2024. That was only for Xbox consoles though and it has never been made available for PC gamers who subscribe to PC Game Pass. This is set to change thanks to a new leak.
Last year, reputable Rockstar insider Tez2 claimed Rockstar Games are “preparing” GTA V to work with PC Game Pass. Despite Rockstar doing some prep all those months ago, it still has not come to PC Game Pass.
However, Rockstar Games pushed a new update on Tuesday and it brings a PC Game Pass inclusion ever closer. Inside the latest update to the Rockstar Games Launcher, Tez2 spotted support for the Xbox PC App was added. He went onto say they are getting ready for GTA V to launch on PC Game Pass. This means you’ll launch GTA V through the Xbox PC App then it’ll through the Rockstar Games Launcher. It is unknown if it will be the old GTA V Legacy version, the new GTA V Enhanced or both.
As for when it will join, that’s up in the air. The game is currently in PlayStation Plus and typically Rockstar won’t have their games in the two console subscriptions at the same time. GTA V should leave PS+ in May. This leads me to believe we could see it come to Game Pass after that but that is just speculation.
Also part of the same Rockstar Games Launcher update was improved Discord support. Whilst it has not been enabled yet, Rockstar titles will soon have Discord Rich Presence integration. For example, you’ll be able to see how many people are playing in a session and ask to join a person.

How long could it last in Game Pass?
Typically, GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 are part of Xbox Game Pass for around 6 months before taking a year or so out. If GTA V does indeed make its way to PC Game Pass, it would be a safe bet to assume it will have 6 months in the service.
In 2023, Xbox suffered a major document leak due to the court battle over its acquisition of Activision Blizzard. It revealed just how much it costs them to get GTA V in Xbox Game Pass. The expected payment requested by Take-Two would be $12-15 million per month. Given it is usually in there for half a year, GTA V on Game Pass costs about $72-90 million each time. Xbox also had a “wildcard” section questioning if they will do PC in the future.
Currently it is unknown when GTA V will come to PC Game Pass or return to Xbox Game Pass and Cloud Streaming. As and when Xbox announce anything, it will be reported on RockstarINTEL.
