GTA 5 and GTA Online have been confirmed to be leaving Xbox Game Pass once again. Following a couple of previous stints, Rockstar put the blockbuster back into Microsoft’s subscription service in July 2023.
Xbox announced this re-entry on their official news site this summer. It became part of Game Pass on July 5th 2023. Fans have been able to play Grand Theft Auto V and GTA Online without owning the game digitally. This included the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S versions of Grand Theft Auto V.
After 6 months, the game appeared in the “Leaving Soon” section on the Game Pass app last month. Then on Wednesday, Xbox announced it will be exiting Game Pass on Friday January 5th. This comes 7 months after it was brought back into Microsoft’s game subscription service.
How much it costs for Xbox to get GTA V on Game Pass
In September, a major Xbox leak revealed how much the company expects to pay to get Rockstar’s game on Game Pass. Microsoft also noted they would expect Take-Two to ask for around $12 to $15 million a month to be on Game Pass for approximately 30 million hours of time played in the game.
Before it goes
Before it leaves Xbox Game Pass, be sure to play the game in the cloud on any device that supports Xbox Cloud Streaming. It’s fun playing the game from anywhere with WiFi. For example, you’ll be able to play GTA V or GTA Online on your phone wherever you have an internet connection.
Plus, any game that is part of Xbox Game Pass is also discounted by 20% to purchase digitally with your membership so GTA V will be cheaper now.

For PlayStation players
PlayStation announced earlier this month that GTA V will be joining PS+. As of December 19th, all PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium subscribers will get GTA V and GTA Online to play until it leaves the service. At this moment in time, the duration for its inclusion in PS+ has not been announced.
