Late last night, the source code for Grand Theft Auto V & Grand Theft Auto Online was leaked by somebody on Discord for everybody to download.
The source code was originally obtained last year by the same person who leaked 90 videos of Grand Theft Auto VI in September 2022. The Source Code was then sold on the Darkweb and then it was rumoured to be released today, on Christmas day.
8 Cancelled GTAV Updates
The Source Code did show off a lot of information, including references to Bully 2 being in progress, Grand Theft Auto VI, and even showed off an early version of the GTA IV map.
One thing that has stood out to us and many of the Rockstar Community members on X (Formerly Twitter) is that the Source Code reveals there were 8 planned SinglePlayer updates, that of course, got cancelled. Most likely due to the success of Grand Theft Auto: Online.
The first single-player update to be revealed in the Source Code is Assassination Missions, which was a single-player pack for Grand Theft Auto V. This update was announced by Rockstar Games on February 27th 2014 alongside the GTA Online Business Update. Flight School Missions for GTAV Singleplayer was also announced on the same day. Both of which, never happened.
The second cancelled update for GTAV was called the Manhunt Pack and the third update was titled Norman Pack.
Following on, the Fourth update to be cancelled was titled Agent Trevor. This is rumoured that this later became The Doomsday Heist update for Grand Theft Auto: Online, which isn’t surprising considering we’ve known for a long time that cancelled single-player update assets were reused for GTA Online updates.
The Fifth and Sixth updates were both titled Relationship Pack and the Enterprise Pack. No context is given for either of these updates.
Then we get on to the interesting ones. One of the Cancelled updates was titled Prologue DLC which was allegedly meant to be a North Yankton Expansion Pack, which was a highly requested update for both Single-Plkayer and for GTA Online.
The final update of the cancelled 8 was titled LibertyV, which was meant to be Liberty City added to Grand Theft Auto V as an expansion pack. This has been rumoured for a long time, especially since Rockstar Games and Take-Two took down projects which were specifically ones that recreated Liberty City in GTAV as a mod for people to enjoy.
On December 9th 2013, Rockstar Games announced that we would be getting a Single-Player DLC in 2014, where we continue our story as Michael, Trevor and Franklin, which we knew was cancelled a long time ago because GTA Online was a Cashcow.
