GTA V and GTA Online were two of the most played games across PlayStation, Xbox and PC platforms last year. This is according to a new report by market research firm Newzoo via Kotaku.
They were able to analyse data of the monthly active users (MAU) on the four key gaming platforms: Switch, Xbox, PC and PlayStation across 37 countries. As GTA V is not on Switch, we’ll only be taking a look at team blue and green plus PC charts and data in this case.
Grand Theft Auto V was the second most played game in all of 2023 on PlayStation consoles last year. This is up from third place in the previous year. Call of Duty Modern Warfare II/Warzone 2 took the runner up spot in 2022. Only Fortnite, a free-to-play game with a lower age rating had more monthly average users on the game. GTA V beat out the new iteration of Call of Duty Warzone and Modern Warfare III.
On the Xbox side of things it was the third most played game in terms of MAU in 2023. It missed out to Fortnite and CoD MWIII/Warzone 2. GTA V’s position remains the same as the previous year. As for PC, in 2022 it did not chart in the top 10. However, in 2023 it was the 9th highest charting game.
Overall, the fact that GTA V/GTA Online saw growth on PC and PlayStation and remained stable on Xbox is very impressive. This is particularly interesting given how many popular new releases came out last year.
GTA V and GTA Online might have celebrated their 10th anniversary last September but they just won’t stop being played by gamers. The game is about to cross the 200 million copies sold mark which was unthinkable back at launch in 2023. The game is also still a top seller and downloaded game each month on PlayStation.
