Rockstar Games is seeing continued success throughout 2025 with their two main titles. Red Dead Redemption 2 extends its reign as the most downloaded PS4 game each month yet again whilst GTA V / GTA Online sees growth despite community fatigue and GTA 6 trailer desperation. Now chart data from PlayStation is in for April to show that in reality Rockstar are doing great despite what social media said last month.
GTA V Gains Places Despite No New Content
PlayStation shared their monthly game charts on Monday for PS5, PS4, PSVR and F2P game downloads throughout April. In the PS4 charts, it moved up a single place in both charts: it was 11th in North America and 8th in Europe.
As for PS5 charts, GTA V rose from 13th place in the USA and Canada chart to 8th position despite big, new releases such as The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, Forza Horizon 5, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and other popular titles gaining places. In Europe, it moved up from 8th to 6th fending off strong competition.
Red Dead Redemption 2 Just Can’t Be Stopped
Red Dead Redemption 2 has now achieved another five months in a row as the most downloaded PS4 title across the United States and Canada. This is widely impressive given the amount of new current gen titles taking up mindshare and sales and the age of this game.
In Europe, it also took first place meaning it has had two month in this position. This includes downloads to PS5 consoles as the game is not a PS5 title.
Sales And Player Counts
We also have some sales charts for Europe. According to analytics firm Newzoo via gamesindustry.biz, GTA V was the 17th best selling game in March, down from 13th. Though there six big new releases above it.
In terms of active players, it was the 4th most played game in Europe during March, two places higher than that month before. Red Dead Redemption 2 managed to be the 19th most played game in the same month. In the US, GTA V is almost always the third most played game on PlayStation and Xbox.
In other charts, we learned GTA V was Twitch’s most watched game on live streams in all of 2024 by some margin. Over a decade on, it goes from strength to strength in the streaming space. Learn more here.
