Even with GTA 6‘s release looming and nearly 12 years on from release, GTA V was the most watched game on Twitch last year.
In a new report published by the Amazon-owned live streaming platform, via The Verge, a list of the most watched games in the previous calendar year have been revealed. In terms of hours watched worldwide, GTA V took the top spot and it wasn’t even super close.
It clocked in 1.4 billion hours of watch time. Its nearest competitor was League of Legends with 1.16 billion. It would be a fair bet to say GTA 6 hours watched in its first year of release will eclipse GTA V’s. The new game is entering a different social landscape compared to its predecessor in 2013.
In terms of total hours across the whole platform and year, there was 15.6 billion hours watched say Twitch. This means GTA V / GTA Online accounted for around 9% of all hours watched on the platform. That is very impressive considering how many games are streamed on Twitch.
GTA RP makes up most of the live content happening on Twitch. Far more people watch that content than play it personally. Despite what FiveM can do, most people still play and buy GTA V on console.

We also learned a few months ago that the game not only topped Twitch’s standings but all platforms in 2024. Analytics firm Stream Hatchet confirmed GTA V was the most watched game via livestreaming with Twitch, YouTube, Kick, Facebook and more are combined.
In terms of watch hours, GTA V had up over 2 billion hours meaning Twitch alone accounted for the majority. Stream Hatchet reported that GTA V had 1.3 billion on Twitch so given there is only around a 0.1 (1 million) discrepancy between Twitch and Steam Hatchet you can count on the latter’s reporting.
