GTA V and GTA Online have returned to Xbox Game Pass but this time with a whole new platform and version. Xbox announced the good news earlier this month and now have acted upon it. The game had been absent from the subscription service for well over a year but it has now returned as of April 15th.
In previous stints, both the Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and cloud versions have been playable in Xbox Game Pass. What’s different this time around is that the PC version is now included with PC Game Pass, Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. Both the GTA V Legacy and new GTA V Enhanced versions are included in all of those 3 tiers of Game Pass which is a nice touch.
Both versions on PC (Legacy and Enhanced) have separate achievement lists to the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S versions. This means you can go and earn an extra 1750 Gamerscore on both PC versions separate from your Xbox saves.
Rockstar marked the game returning to Xbox Game Pass with a brand new trailer and newswire post. These two pieces of media showcase the best and latest features of GTA V Enhanced.
Xbox Finally Got What They Wanted
This is something Microsoft has been trying to make happen for a few years now. In 2023, Xbox suffered a major document leak due to the court battle over its acquisition of Activision Blizzard. One of the leaked documents had GTA V in PC Game Pass as a “wildcard” questioning if Take-Two let them do PC in the future.
It also showed us how much it costs to get GTA V in Xbox Game Pass. The expected payment requested by Take-Two is $12-15 million per month. Given it is usually in there for half a year, GTA V on Game Pass costs about $72-90 million each time.

In The Works For Some Time
Since the middle of 2024, there has been datamines of the Rockstar Games Launcher suggesting plans were being put into place for PC Game Pass support. Soon fans can launch GTA V on PC through the Xbox App. This lets fans play on the same servers as Steam, Epic Games Store and Rockstar Games Launcher players.
How Will It Last In Game Pass?
There is no confirmed end date for GTA V in Game Pass like most Game Pass titles. However, GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 are usually part of Xbox Game Pass for around 6 months before taking a year or so out. Similar things can be said about the Rockstar titles in PlayStation Plus, they last 6 months. Based on that, it would be a safe bet to assume it will have 6 months in Xbox and PC Game Pass.
