GTA V could soon arrive into Xbox’s PC Game Pass subscription. The second best selling game of all time has been part of Xbox Game Pass several times now with the most recent stint being from July 2023 to January 2024. However, it has never been made available for PC gamers who subscribe to Game Pass.
Details on this development and how it works have been revealed by a reputable Rockstar insider. Known in the community as Tez2, he claims Rockstar Games are “preparing” GTA V to work with PC Game Pass. This is to have it ready for if they decide to put it into PC Game Pass.

How will it work?
Since Tez2 shared this info on Twitter, many fans have asked questions how it will work. Tez2 explains that you will launch GTA V through the Xbox App on PC much like other PC Game Pass titles. Then it goes through the Rockstar Games Launcher.
This is how EA games work for those with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate; you can launch through the Xbox App and then goes through the EA App.
If GTA V does come to PC Game Pass, it will be the PC version of GTA V and GTA Online, not the Xbox version playable on PC. So, it will be missing Xbox Series X|S exclusive features and lobbies will be PC players only.
How long could it last in Game Pass?
Typically, GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 are part of Xbox Game Pass for around 6 months before taking a year or so out. If GTA V does indeed make its way to PC Game Pass, it would be a safe bet to assume it will have 6 months in the service.
Xbox leak revealed they wondered about PC Game Pass GTA V
Last year, Xbox suffered a major document leak due to the court battle over its acquisition of Activision Blizzard. It revealed just how much it costs them to get GTA V in Xbox Game Pass. The expected payment requested by Take-Two would be $12-15 million per month. Given it is usually in there for half a year, GTA V on Game Pass costs about $72-90 million each time.
Xbox also had a “wildcard” section questioning if they will do PC in the future. PC Game Pass has seen great growth but still a lack of overall numbers. Putting GTA V on there might help that a bit.
Also in the document was a Red Dead Redemption 2 row with an interesting tidbit. The wildcard section said “Doubtful on PC…or, handle via account linking?” With both of these wildcard sections, it seems like Xbox are getting their request a few years later. If GTA V proves to be a PC Game Pass success, perhaps Red Dead Redemption 2 will follow later on.
Currently it is unknown when GTA V will come to PC Game Pass or return to Xbox Game Pass and Cloud Streaming. As and when Xbox announce anything, it will be reported on RockstarINTEL.
