The GTA III remaster has just become free to play and own on iOS devices. It is currently unknown if this was intentional by Rockstar Games or it is a mistake but those with access to the App Store can get the game for free at the time of writing
First spotted by Reddit user lmarti_g7, the Definitive Edition of GTA III can be added to anyone’s Apple Account free of charge. The game usually costs $19.99. It was previously included in Netflix subscriptions until it left the service late last year after racking up millions of downloads through it.
Some fans are wondering if this is mistake for various reasons. It is not free on the Google Play Store nor has there been any sort of visible reason for it. The only recent GTA Trilogy news since it was fixed was GTA III entered select PlayStation Plus tiers last month. We reported on that here.
If you have an iPhone or iPad running iOS 16 and 16.0 or later with the A12 Bionic chip or later, you’ll be able to play GTA III. It comes in at 1.9GB in size. Unfortunately, you will not be able to claim it to save for later if you are on a device running an iOS version below 16.0. It is also not playable on Mac.
Grab it whilst it is free here from the App Store. It can be enjoyed with a bluetooth controller too.
UPDATE: 12pm BST – The game is no longer free meaning it was a mistake.
