Pre-orders for GTA 6 have officially gone live digitally and across retailers. Millions of fans sat in front of their gaming console waiting for midnight to strike, and some have noticed a detail in the download files that possibly hints at a separate GTA Online mode.
As pointed out by user @Glowdevs on X (through @SynthPotato) the XBOX files are separated into several add-ons. Such as the Ultimate Edition add-on you can buy separately if you purchased the standard edition of the game, or the vintage vice city pack you get included.
The most noteworthy detail however is there being a ‘Story’ add-on, indicating that the story mode of GTA 6 can be installed separately from the online mode, however, at the current time it also states that the story add-on doesn’t need to be installed.

GTA Online Release likely in months after GTA 6 launch
Rockstar lips are currently sealed on the next instalment of GTA Online, as it states GTA 6 is a ‘singe-player experience’. It is however extremely likely GTA 6 Online will release in the following months after the single-player launch. Rockstar put out the first instalment of GTA Online less than a month after the release of GTA V, and Red Dead Online almost exactly one month after Red Dead Redemption 2 launched.
Red Dead Online is available to be purchased and downloaded separately, as well as GTA Online. With the amount of copies GTA 6 will sell on its own, it would make more sense to make the mode free and monetise the huge player base they will have from day one.
In other recent news, Rockstar Games have announced all of the pre-order info such as price and what’s included within the various editions. Plus, nearly 70 new screenshots show off how incredible the game looks.
