The latest GTA 6 info drop is causing quite a stir. Will GTA Online be an all-new game in 2027? Let’s see what has been said so far.
Rockstar Games has surprised and excited fans with a whole host of pre-order info such as the game’s price, varying editions, nearly 70 screenshots and more. However, critics are hitting back after the possibility that the game’s multiplayer mode will be a standalone purchase that might not even arrive for another year or more.
All of this speculation comes from an answer from PlayStation’s FAQ for the game; many eyebrows have been raised. PlayStation say “Does Grand Theft Auto VI have any multiplayer modes or features?” They make it clear that “Grand Theft Auto VI is a single-player experience.” There is zero mention of multiplayer at all. This is a statement.
Take-Two’s own press release also makes it known GTA VI “features a single-player experience set in the biggest, most immersive evolution of the series yet.” Again, there is no comment on a new version of GTA Online.
It was always expected the next version of GTA Online would not go live on November 19th with GTA VI Story Mode. A December release date and the online component included within the price of GTA VI was also the easy bet. However, it is starting to sound like Rockstar has different plans. Sure, Rockstar won’t want to reveal all their hand just yet but the wording released today is done on purpose. This was crafted and well-thought-out with lawyers.
How will GTA Online for GTA VI work then? Based on the wording provided, GTA Online for GTA VI will either be a seperate, paid for game later down the line. Or, it will come much later than expected and be part of GTA VI’s entrance fee. The Ultimate Edition also has zero GTA Online content and that’s something shareholders were counting on.
