GTA 6 will be available to pre-order on June 25th, in just five days. It will aside from the launch, be an absolutely colossal event. It will be sure to sweat even the strongest of servers from PlayStation and Xbox alike. With analysts predicting record-shattering amounts of revenue for the gaming-industry titan releasing later this year.
Industry analyst and well-known leaker Tom Henderson recently discussed the game’s commercial potential on the Insider Gaming Podcast. According to Henderson, GTA 6 could generate an astonishing $1 billion in pre-order revenue in an hour. As he put it: “GTA V did a billion in three days, this one (GTA 6) is doing a billion in an hour, easy.”
To put that in perspective: it would mean the game would sell 12-14 million copies in the form of pre-orders in under an hour. To put that even further in perspective: that would be just under half of the copies The Last of Us sold, across the ENTIRE franchise (remakes included) in UNDER an hour.
Henderson is not the only analyst making bold predictions. Investment bank Piper Sandler recently estimated that GTA 6 could sell more than 46 million copies on its first day of release. If accurate, those sales could generate roughly $3 billion in launch-day revenue, making it the largest entertainment launch of all time and comfortably surpassing the records previously set by GTA V.
Rumoured development budget of over $1B

With a rumoured development budget of between $1-1.5 Billion Dollars, parent company Take-Two Interactive has large stakes for this launch going well. As they could break even from pre-orders alone. The biggest question still up in the air is the price. If the game will cost $100, it could set a new industry standard, and with gaming hardware become more and more expensive, not a necessarily positive one. It would seem more likely Rockstar would target more volume with an $80 retail price, as it has been proven games still sell well at that heightened price.
