Video game porting company and Rockstar collaborators Virtuos are “eager” to bring both GTA V and Dead Redemption 2 to the Nintendo Switch.
In a new interview with Pocket Tactics, Virtuos’ Andy Fong discussed the Team Bondi-Rockstar affair as it marked its 15th anniversary since launch. Whilst it is not Rockstar’s best work, many of us still love playing detective in 1940’s Hollywood.
For those unaware, Virtuos previously worked with Rockstar on L.A. Noire. The Singapore-based studio did the Nintendo Switch port of the game which dropped in late 2017.
Virtuos have had some impressive ports in recent years and they want more of Rockstar’s back catalog elsewhere. According to Fong, the team at Virtuos are “eager to adapt Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 for the Nintendo Switch.” This is because they are “big fans” plus believe both titles could “shine again on the Switch, delighting even more players”.

It would be great to see more Rockstar titles on Switch. The GTA Trilogy was plagued at launch and it took a whole new team, Video Game Deluxe (now Rockstar Australia) to fix it but Red Dead Redemption by Double Eleven was fantastic. It looks and plays great across PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, Switch 1, iOS, Android and Netflix.
The Switch 2 is quite capable despite its size. Red Dead 2 was built for that those underpowered PS4 and Xbox One consoles whereas GTA V was made for 2005’s Xbox 360 with just 512mb of RAM. It would be possible. Maybe once GTA 6 is out, Rockstar will let some resources go to helping other teams like Virtuos bring classics to the Nintendo Switch 2.
