Rumours have started to circulate regarding how well Grand Theft Auto VI has been selling. With one site claiming PlayStation 5 is outselling the Xbox Series massively from the affiliate data they have gathered. Xbox has spoken out about this.
Yesterday, IGN put out a post saying that through the IGN affiliate link, that for every 8 purchases for Grand Theft Auto VI on the PlayStation 5, only 1 was being purchased for the Xbox Series. This data only represents what was being sold through the IGN affiliate sales links and does not represent sales through any other retailer or any other affiliate link.
This information soon spread over the internet with the full context not being given when people were reporting on it, So people started to assume that GTA 6 overall was selling better on PS5 by 8 to 1.
This has caused Microsoft to speak out and make a statement to Windows Central. In the statement the spokesperson from Xbox told Windows Central that ‘People should wait for real data and not clicks on affiliate links.’ The spokesperson also said that they’ve had record Pre-orders.
No official pre-order data has been released by PlayStation, Xbox or even Rockstar Games themselves, so all pre-order stats circulating are currently just pure speculation. What IGN reported is solely from an affiliate link they use which they did also make quite clear in the post
