Someone just sold a physical copy of the Red Dead Redemption Nintendo Switch 2 Edition a few weeks before it’s is officially released. This comes after a couple of leaks relating to the game last week. Physical copies of Red Dead Redemption for PS5 and Switch 2 will be on sale in Europe from May 7th.
As spotted by reddit user ttvsindeel, a listing for a physical copy of Red Dead Redemption Nintendo Switch 2 Edition was posted to online marketplace website Vinted. The listing shows photos of it giving us a peek of the box’s front and back design. This item is from a buyer located in Lincoln, England. Side note: Rockstar has an office in Lincoln which is the dedicated quality assurance and localisation studio.
Within an hour of the listing going live and during the writing of this article, someone had purchased the item. The item sold for £13.83 but will retail for £34.99 next month.
As you can see from the images below, there are a few slight differences between the Switch 2 and Switch covers and boxes. The initial Switch release for Red Dead Redemption featured a clear case whereas Switch 2 games come in a red case. More on that down below.

The Nintendo Switch 2 logo/header is present at the top of the game cover in this new release as opposed to the old Switch 1 logo in the top left hand corner. Furthermore, text saying Nintendo Switch 2 edition can be found below the Red Dead Redemption logo on the cover.
It also states that the game is a Download Code Only with no cartridge inside. Whilst rockstar have published a “Code-in-a-Box” variant of Red Dead Redemption before, it was put out entirely on a game cartridge at launch in 2023. This of course is extremely disappointing given the game easily fits on a Switch 2 cartridge.
Preparation for something like this began as far back as August last year. We reported on how Rockstar took over publishing their own games on Nintendo’s platform from the Japanese console manufacturer themselves. Then in September, Rockstar had begun making all of their physical Switch game cases red rather than clear. Nintendo Switch 2 games kicked off the red game case change but Rockstar decided to start doing it to their back catalog of Switch 1 titles.
Red Dead Redemption is now available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, iOS, Android and Netflix. For more Red Dead Redemption news updates, stay tuned to RockstarINTEL.
