On Wednesday, Rockstar Games opened up their own public Discord server. This came as a surprise to everybody and so far it has been both intriguing and a mess. Given the sheer size of the Rockstar Games community and the excited GTA 6 fans, it was expected the server would have some hiccups although there were more than we’d have thought…We’ll be delving into both the good and bad to come from the server so far.
The launch began with Rockstar communicating to fan accounts that the server is now open. Quite a few people did not believe the server was real due to Rockstar not publicly saying anything and despite the official verification tag being on the server. Thankfully, Rockstar did publicly acknowledge the server and confirm its legitimacy in their recent GTA Online Event Week newswire.
Teething Issues
Since its launch, it has amassed almost 200,000 members with peaks of around 50,000 people online at the same time. That’s a lot of people in a chatroom wanting to know when Trailer 2 for GTA 6 is coming.
Most people genuinely were in there asking for GTA 6 news. Every minute most channels had thousands of messages flying in. There was also a lot of emoji spam in particular flags in the dozens and hundreds taking up most of the screen. It was so bad on the first day Rockstar added a 10 minute slow mode time to many channels such as the GTA 6 one. Even with it on, the chat was zooming by. The 10 minute cooldown is still in effect due to it all.
Also, many of the channels are not being used for what they should be. The GTA Online community challenge channel which is for group up when a Rockstar Games launch a new one is just GTA 6 Trailer 2 spam. Even worse, the Red Dead Redemption/Red Dead Online channels are worse. It’s all GTA 6 talk and not western.
Of course with such a large number there were going to be people who came to cause trouble. I routinely saw racism and other forms of abuse in both messages and profiles which were left unmoderated for some time. The server has been cleaned up somewhat but it was very disappointing to see.

Rockstar Have Been Planning This For Years
Now for some details which are certainly eyebrow raising. The official Rockstar Games Discord account was made on September 17th 2019 and created the server on the same day. That’s over 5 years ago… Also, that has account has been boosting the server since the same day. Rockstar has paid Discord quite a bit of money without doing anything with it. All of this information is available by clicking on the profile inside of the Discord server
So, Rockstar had this planned for half a decade but had not executed on it until now. Meanwhile the other Rockstar Admin accounts were made on November 19th 2024 and joined that same day. That’s more recent but still, a little odd. Meanwhile some messages that Rockstar Games have made in the server were from August 6th 2024.
It seems a little strange that the server is so old and planned yet the lack of moderation and such was an obvious problem which could have been dealt with better. On top of that, as spotted by Kotaku, Rockstar had an “Rockstar Games” AI chat bot which was responding to people with gibberish upon being pinged by fans. This bot was since disabled by Rockstar.

In the #community-discord-servers channel, they posted a link to GTA Series and the Red Dead Online server back in August. Evidently the company were planning to use Discord months ago but only decided to let fans in from this week. This has led to speculation among fans that news about GTA 6 is just around the corner; plus there is a GTA 6 channel on the server.
Hopefully server settles down in the coming days, bigotry is eliminated and it becomes a meaningful place for people to become friends playing Rockstar Games titles.
In other GTA 6 news, Rockstar’s parent company’s CEO teased a PC release at some point plus he shut down concerns of AI and violence. The game is still targeting a Fall 2025 release and that helped surge the stock price of Take-Two.

How is anyone remotely surprised? If you were a Rockstar Newswire user around GTA V droughts (when the Newswire was able to let you comment and communicate with others) it was bad as well. This is just that but 100x worse
Good game
