In a new interview, the CEO of Rockstar Games‘ parent company, Take-Two Interactive has teased GTA 6 coming to PC at some point and the reason why they can’t pass by the opportunity. As we know, Rockstar Games have only confirmed GTA 6 will release on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in Fall 2025. This is despite the console market slowing in terms of growth whereas PC gaming has continuously gained momentum.
Rockstar’s History
Based Rockstar’s past behaviour with the likes of GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2, it was no surprise when confirmation of a console only launch was given with the first trailer. PC gamers are unfortunately used to getting their version of a Rockstar Games title a year or two later (or in some games 14 years…) so it was it was not a huge deal even if disappointing.
Over the many years and game releases, fans have speculated why Rockstar chooses to do this. Some believe it is purely down to money. A lot of people won’t be able to wait up to two years to play the game so they’ll buy it on console then PC later. Or, it is due to Rockstar wanting to make sure it is a good PC port though GTA IV’s released months after the console counterpart and is still infamous for being so terrible.
The truth is likely somewhere in the middle. Rockstar Games titles are huge and complex. Creating it for 2 fixed boxes effectively is much easier than the trillions of PC part combinations and resources are not spread thin across three or more platforms. But having it on PC brings games much more success. We’re seeing PlayStation for example bring their PS5 console “exclusives” to PC a few years after launch.

CEO Quizzed Over Decision
Take Two CEO Strauss Zelnick actually took on the question about PC head on once again in a new interview with IGN. They asked the big boss is GTA 6 not being on PC a mistake? And he revealed why PC is important and that they do support PC but it depends on the situation. He pointed to Civilization 7 launching on PC and Switch day one.
From there, Zelnick noted Rockstar typically don’t release on PC day one. “Historically, Rockstar has started with some platforms and then historically moved to other platforms.” He continued by bringing an interesting stat. According to the CEO, PC sales can make up more than 40% of a game’s sales. As we know, GTA RP is wildly popular and will be a huge boom for GTA 6 like it has been for its predecessor.
As for how Take-Two views PC, Strauss said “We have seen PC become a much more and more important part of what used to be a console business, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see that trend continue. Of course, there will be a new console generation.”
Another small comment worth mentioning is that Zelnick thinks “I don’t think tariffs are going to be our friend” when it comes to console sales. These tariffs being the ones implemented by President Trump. You can read more about their impact here.

What Else Has Been Said?
Strauss Zelnick has done a number of different interviews this past week including one where he shut down concerns over AI being used to make the graphics and the game causing gun violence. You can read all about that here. Plus, he talked about how there is still room for GTA 6 to slip to 2026 but is confident in the game coming out in several months time.
His company’s share price hit an all-time high price on Monday following that confidence in GTA 6 launching in Fall 2025 among other things. If you’d like to learn more about the situation, check out our article here.
