Rockstar Games have released new patch for GTA V/GTA Online to remove a song from the game.
As spotted by Tex2, Rockstar put out a new patch on Tuesday morning which gets rid of Moloko’s “The Time Is Now”. This was a popular track on Non Stop Pop FM. If you play the Enhanced version of game on PC, this song will no longer appear in the station’s rotation. It has caused fans to take to social media and express their disappointment about this.
The update has currently only been pushed to the Enhanced PC version of the game at the time of writing. GTA V Legacy on PC and console versions are currently untouched but we’d expect the song to be removed on those platforms at some point too if it is a licensing reason. Rockstar had to go and patch out songs from games like GTA IV in the past so this is not unexpected now GTA V has reached 13 years old.
Licenses for music in video games vary with many games only opting for 5-10 years. Of course, Rockstar could pay for the license again, it is possible this is a temporary move though it seems unlikely with GTA VI just around the corner. The fact it is only the PC Enhanced version of the game suggests there is a possibility of a return for the track, perhaps it is purely an legal/admin situation that needs rectifying. Hopefully we get an update to bring it back soon.
Rockstar Games published patch notes on their support site but they were extremely vague and did not say anything about the song’s removal.
