We have just gained some insight into what the marketing will be like for the upcoming Max Payne 1 & 2 remake. Rockstar Games will be much more public about their involvement in the months and years to come based on what has been said.
This new information comes after we reported on Remedy’s development update for January through March 2025 on Wednesday. The company confirmed the project has overall made “great progress” during the full production stage recently. The Finnish game developer’s CEO Tero Virtala explained that critical milestones are coming up and work is continuing with Rockstar.
Following the release of these documents, CEO Virtala took questions from investors yesterday including one on about the Max Payne 1 & 2 remake. Virtala was asked by Twitter user @YSGR35 “Will we have a first trailer or teaser for Max Payne 1 & 2 remake this year?”. To which the CEO said this:
Max Payne Remake will be published by Rockstar Games and all the communications, marketing, is in their hands and we are not commenting anything on that.” – Remedy Entertainment CEO Tero Virtala

What This Means
Whilst we have known Rockstar are fully funding and publishing the game for years now, this is the first time we’ve heard Rockstar will be marketing it themselves over Remedy. What and when we’ll get for this remake project will be down to Rockstar. As we know, they tend to say very little.
Given GTA 6 is releasing this year and the Max Payne Remakes should be coming in 2026, a trailer might seem doubtful until GTA 6 is out of the way. That’s just speculation though. Rockstar are difficult to predict.
It is insane to think within a 12 month period, Rockstar will release both GTA VI and the Max Payne 1 & 2 remake. That’s fairly good time frame for two game releases after almost a decade drought.

You must be joking if you think that one or both those games won’t be delayed into 2027 or 2028 closer to their release date..
Rockstar has a famous track record for delaying games constantly.. I don’t expect we will see GTA 6 until at leaat fall of 2026.. That would put Max Payne remakes at 2027 or 2028…
