Once again, Remedy have provided yet another small development update on the Max Payne Remake along with the impact the game’s cost is having on the company. Every quarter, the game developer share financial reports covering the previous three months. This latest quarter covering January to March 2025 is no different.
These documents are to inform investors about the company’s plans and current work. They also give comments about whereabouts their games are in the development cycle. Remedy have several games in various stages of development including the Max Payne 1 & 2 remake.
Development Costs Rise More
Whilst today’s update from the company, as expected, is relatively minor it is still worth taking a look at. Remedy’s CEO Tero Virtala started off by explaining the amount spent on development of their games increased in the past quarter; during January through March. This was down to the Max Payne 1 & 2 remake and Control 2. A similar comment was made last quarter meaning the production is continuing to ramp up.
Progress Report
Furthermore, the Max Payne 1 & 2 remake is said to have made “great progress and remains in full production“. In the past quarter, team have “advanced steadily toward major development stages in several critical areas, working alongside the game’s publisher, Rockstar Games” according to Remedy’s CEO. We know Rockstar are working closely with Remedy to make sure this remake meets both of the companies’ high standards.
Looking Ahead

So, the Max Payne Remake continues to be worked on in full production. As of April 2025, the game has been in full production for around 10+ months. According to Remedy, this process takes roughly 200 employees around 1 to 2 years to get the game ready for 6 months of beta testing.
The game is on the larger side, akin to Alan Wake 2 in budget, meaning it will likely take the full 2 years or so. If the game takes 2.5 years in full production and testing based on their stage gate process, we could be playing the remakes before the end of 2026.
Based on Remedy’s consistency and transparency, we’ll hear more about the Max Payne once their Q2 2025 has concluded. This will be around August 2025 and their half year review is set for August 12th. As usual, we’ll be covering the information right here on RockstarINTEL.
In other Max Payne news, one of the analysts which Remedy host on their investor site has an idea when they think the game will release. It is simply an educated guess but they believe it will be out in the first half of 2026. You can learn more here.
