Max Payne Remake development has been discussed by Remedy’s Sam Lake in a new interview. During the press tour for Alan Wake 2, the writer/director was asked about the upcoming remakes of Max Payne 1 and 2.
We haven’t heard much from Sam about the remakes since the announcement back in April 2022. However, Mr Lake finally answered a couple of questions about the project.
These remakes are big
During the interview with Sam for Alan Wake 2, VGC asked him “How significant are the remakes?” Sam responded with:
It is a significant undertaking in the sense that even if they are old games, just thinking about bringing them up to modern standards and combining them into one, you can see that it’s a big, big project.
Sam Lake
Based on his answer, this project is not going to be a small double pack game release. These remakes seem to be quite ambitious. Given the technological leaps we’ve seen in Control and more recently Alan Wake 2, fans can be excited for what a remade Max pain will look like.
Back in April this year we reported that the remakes have progressed well. They also moved from the concept stage into the proof of concept stage.
According to remedy the “proof of concept stage” can take approximately 3 to 6 months. This means we shouldn’t be far away from the next stage of this game’s development. Remedy’s next investor report will release on October 31st so there’s a high chance of an update on the development then.
Will Sam Lake play Max Payne again?
A question many people have asked is whether Sam will reprise his role as Max Payne in the remakes. VGC asked if Sam would be doing that and he responded with “No comment! That’s going too far.”
So he’s keeping things pretty close to his chest. This makes sense given that the game is still in a concept stage of sort. The game is potentially still another two to three years away so it’s no surprise.
Rockstar are fully funding the remakes’ development but are not involved in creative decisions.
