The Max Payne Remake has received a development update from Remedy Entertainment. It has been almost a year since Remedy and Rockstar Games announced a next-gen remake of Max Payne 1 and 2.
The announcement explained how Remedy would be developing the game whilst Rockstar would help finance it and have effectively no development involvement. They also stated at the time it was “in the concept development stage”. The part that excited fans the most was the game would only release on the latest hardware: Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC without a last-gen debut.
Another important piece of info released was that both games will be remade on Remedy’s game proprietary Northlight engine. This allows Remedy to take full advantage of the new hardware without being limited in any way or form from the old consoles.
Latest update from Remedy
Since then it has been silence though. This was to be expected given the game was in a “concept development stage” so this new update from Remedy is welcomed even if it is a bit short. In their 2022 annual report to investors, the slide dedicated to the Max Payne 1 and 2 remakes state the following:
“In 2022, the game was in the concept development stage, with a small team focused on the core of any successful product, the gameplay.”
Despite reinterring similar language from a year ago, they did say there is now a small team homing in on making the gameplay good for the remakes. It’s possible by the end of the year a teaser is released to raise some awareness of the project as it feels a bit forgotten right now. It will still be a few years away but never the less is one to look forward to if you’re a Max Payne fan.
Stay tuned to RockstarINTEL for any news updates on the Max Payne remakes.
