Twitch streamer Kai Cenat is not even half way through his month long “subathon” and he has broken the all time most Twitch Subscribers record and had the actor who plays GTA V’s Franklin and Lamar plus GTA San Andreas’ CJ on stream. They talked GTA 6, GTA RP and more.
Kicking things off, Shawn Fonteno who plays Franklin Clinton in GTA V and GTA Online entered Kai’s streaming room. He was met with an excited reaction from Kai and his friends. Since GTA V has come out, Shawn has become beloved by the fans and shared his story in a book, at conventions and even started his own GTA RP server.
The actor shared words of wisdom, behind the scenes details and even interest in taking part in Kai’s new show. The streamer revealed to fans that he’s wanting to direct a 5-part high production YouTube show set in the hood in New York. Shawn said “featuring me” to which Kai responded positively to. Fellow streamer and GTA RP creator Fanum is working to direct this with Kai. It was revealed this week Fanum is nominated for Best Roleplay Streamer in this year’s Streamer Awards. He has won it for the past 2 years.
Fanum also joined the stream room to meet Shawn. The actor asked if he could join his GTA RP server called District10. Fanum said “we can do that”. When playing GTA RP, Shawn plays as Franklin. This is because Rockstar Games gave him special permission to do so.
Kai was presented with a GTA V chain by Shawn plus a copy of his book “Game Changer“. The actor went onto sign both items for the streamer.
Uncle Frank, I know for fact you know sh*t we don’t know (about GTA 6)
Of course, Kai could not let Shawn go without trying to get GTA 6 information out of him. Shawn respects Rockstar and even if he did know anything he would not let anything slip. He told him Rockstar and Take-Two keep saying it is coming in Fall 2025 and that is it.
CJ Answers The Call
Shawn was not the only GTA actor to take part in the stream. His real life cousin is in case you aren’t aware is Young Maylay who played CJ in GTA San Andreas. Whilst Fonteno has had a great post-GTA V relationship with Rockstar Games, Maylay has been vocal for many years about how he won’t work for Rockstar again; likely due to payment issues.
That said, Maylay was kind enough to answer a call from his older cousin and say the iconic San Andreas line. Maylay said he was eating a burrito and did not expect the call. Kai asked him to say the line everyone has memed at his point and Maylay, as CJ, said on the call “Aw sh*t, here we go again”. Kai met it with a very excited reaction. However, looking closely at the clip you can see they played a pre-recorded/original voice line over it.
Lamar Also Joins In
Another call was made by Shawn to Slink Johnson who portrays Lamar in GTA V and GTA Online. When he answered, Kai tells Slink how appreciated he is for his work in GTA Online. Lamar is a recurring character in various parts of the GTA Online story from the start of your new character in 2013 right up to last year’s The Chop Shop update. Much like Maylay, Kai asked him to recite his memed line from the start of GTA V’s Story Mode which he did. Shawn asked Slink to pay a visit before Kai’s “Mafiathon” ends.
Kai’s Relationship With Rockstar
The creative entertainer recently had had an emotional reaction to finding out Rockstar Games following him on Twitter and sending him a message to meet them in person. The company enjoyed watching his first playthrough of Red Dead Redemption 2 last year and reached out ahead of this year’s TwitchCon in San Diego.
One of the reasons people love Cenat’s content is that he dresses up and themes his room when doing playthroughs of games. For example, when playing Elden Ring he wore armour and had a fantasy themed room. When playing Red Dead, he became a cowboy playing in a saloon.
