GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 have given us some interesting download figures in December 2024. The games continued to do battle with more recent and popular games such as Call of Duty Black Ops 6 and EA FC 25. Sony chart data has just been released showing where Rockstar’s titles such as GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 placed in December.
GTA Online Update Helps
PlayStation have shared their monthly game charts on PS5, PS4, PSVR and F2P games for December this week. During that month, it was the 4th most downloaded PS5 title in the USA, Canada and Europe. This is places gained in both charts on either side of the Atlantic. We saw GTA V in 5th for Europe and 6th in the USA/Canada in the previous month. Only new releases were downloaded more here such as EA FC 25 and Call of Duty Black Ops 6.
Let’s know take a look at both charts for PS4 now. Much like the PS5 charts, GTA V went up both charts but even more places were gained on the last gen console. It was the 5th most downloaded game on PS4 in both the European and US/Canada charts. This is up from 6th in the US/Canada table and 9th in Europe.
This is another successive month of places climbed across all of the region and console charts. The main factor behind it doing so well in December was the Agents of Sabotage update. Plus, the requirement of PlayStation Plus to play GTA Online was removed for half of December.
Red Dead Redemption 2 Reigns 6 Years On
Red Dead Redemption 2 was another Rockstar Games title that saw a few successive months of chart placement improvement. Back in October, it was the 3rd most downloaded PS4 game in the US and Canada followed by 2nd place in November and 4th in Europe. It did not stop there. Rockstar’s western masterpiece was the most downloaded PS4 game throughout December in the USA and Canada. It was 2nd in the European chart only to EA FC 25.
2024 USA Charts Revealed
The top 20 best selling games across both disc and digital copies in the USA for 2024 have been revealed. This includes all platforms as well. GTA V makes the cut placing in 15th position. This is another consecutive year in this place despite many new games releasing.
2024 European Charts Revealed
The total sales of disc and digital games for all of Europe have been revealed. The data from GSD, published by VGC, shows Rockstar’s titles doing well once again.
GTA V was the 4th best selling game in the continent. This is up from 5th position in 2023. Only EA Sports FC 25, EA Sports FC 24 and Call of Duty Black Ops 6 outsold the 11 year old game. Red Dead Redemption 2 also made an appearance in the top 20. It was the 7th best selling game in Europe. Much like GTA V, this is 1 place better than the previous year.
In other sales news, GTA V has now surpassed 205 million copies sold say Take-Two. Plus, Red Dead 2 has reached 67 million sales. Learn more about the past quarter of Rockstar’s financials here. A couple of rumours came out last week about Red Dead Redemption 2 releasing on the Switch 2 at launch. If true, this could dramatically increase the sales of the game.
