GTA V was the best selling game during August in the UK and Europe. Plus the game fought new blockbuster games to maintain its place in the most downloaded PS5 game charts. Sony and UK & Europe chart data has just been released showing where Rockstar’s titles such as GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 keep doing.
GTA V surprises in PS5 chart
PlayStation have shared their monthly game charts on PS5, PS4, PSVR and F2P games for June this week. GTA V was the second most downloaded game in July. Then in August we saw big hitting titles like Black Myth: Wukong, Madden 25, College Football 25 and Star Wars Outlaws release. This was going to be a tough month for Rockstar’s near 11 year old game.
It actually maintained 2nd position in the Europe chart! It missed out only to Black Myth: Wukong. That said, Star Wars Outlaws was only available for the last couple of days in August. As expected, both Madden and College Football did well in the North American chart. They pushed GTA V down to 4th.
As for the PS4 charts, it moved down a few places. The USA and Canada chart has it in 5th place whereas Europeans had downloaded it enough times to see it in 4th.
Red Dead Redemption 2 suffers first big slip in months
Red Dead Redemption 2 was the second most downloaded PlayStation 4 game in all of Europe in July though August saw it drop to 8th place. That said, it was the second most second PS4 downloaded game in the US/Canada for three months in a row. Then for the past two months it has been in 4th place for the USA.
GTA V and GTA Online sell well across both disc and digital
The monthly UK games charts are also in for August. According to the data given out by GSD via gamesindustry.biz, GTA V was the best selling game in the region after spending two months in a row in second place. This all disc and digital sales combined.
The PS5 and Xbox Series X|S standalone version of GTA Online jumped back into the top 10. It charted highly in 4th place. This version is only available digitally which makes this placement even more impressive. Meanwhile, Red Dead Redemption 2 exited the top 10. It was in 5th position during the previous month.
European charts are similar in August too. Grand Theft Auto V was the best selling game in the continent when disc and digital copies were combined. This is a 5.7% increase year-on-year.
The PS5 and Xbox Series X|S standalone version of GTA Online made its way back into the top 10 in 8th place. Meanwhile Red Dead Redemption 2 was close by in 9th.
Now for some combined USA and EU data. GTA V was the 10th best selling game in August in terms of revenue across US, UK, Germany, France, Spain and Italy. This covers PC and all consoles. The game was down 3 places from July. In terms of monthly active users, it was 5th in those regions and platforms combined for a second month in a row.
