A GTA Online Beta has been discovered revealing cut content and major changes. This week, fans have emulated a pre-release version of GTA Online found in the files of the Xbox 360 release of the game. This is a ton of unearthed content we’ve never seen before almost 10 years since the launch of GTA V and GTA Online.
It’s fascinating seeing how games change over time due to artistic and design choices or potential technical limitations. Getting a look at pre-release versions of Rockstar Games titles is not always so easy so this is an historic moment for the GTA Online community.
How did this come about?
Dataminer @kimi_sha19 has released their findings since running the GTA Online beta on Xbox 360 emulator for the PC called Xenia. Kimi says another fan called Bryom released a “spoofed” GTA V title update. This makes the game detect it as running patch 1.27 but Kimi noticed if you only use the provided default.xex file, you can enter a beta version of GTA Online.
As you can see from the image below, glitches and text strings are present given it is a work-in-progress build.
Different character creator
Below are three screens showing the character creation process. There is the option for 5 characters. The parents part of the heritage section has a picture frame border.
GTA Online logo change
In the video released by Kimi, we can see the loading screen. It has a broken transition without the iconic sound but includes this logo. It differs from the final one used in a couple of ways. There is no bevel on he GTA text, the online is the same font as GTA and it is a washed out red.
Calling for back up
The phone contact list contains two contacts called Al Carter and Edgar Claros. GTA Forums member BakeWithMe1000 found that calling them gives you the option to call for gang back up. This also extends to Lamar. Lamar is with the Families, Al is from The Lost and Edgar would bring the Vargos.
You have the option to select weapon quality “light” or “medium” and how many gang members. Selecting more or less members and weapon quality changes how much you’ll be charged.
Rank up UI looks different
The rank up and rank UI design is different in this build of GTA Online. The circular icons with numbers for ranks are hexagonal.
WASTED screen offers more info
The iconic wasted screen displayed far more data in this earlier version of GTA Online. We can see in the image below different UI for the death screen. It features the hexagon rank icon, the weapon used to kill you and whereabouts on your body that took hits. This one of the more interesting parts of this GTA Online beta.
Mors Mutual on Twitter shared additional images of the death screen.
You can watch Kimi’s video in full down below. He also states a tutorial may also end up on his channel at some point so you’ll be able to do this for yourself. There is a good chance even more cut content could be found in the files so stay tuned for follow up articles on this developing story.
